WordPress Gets a New Admin Panel

Last week, the WordPress blog posted the first screenshots of the new admin section that will be shipping with WordPress 2.7. Though many have scorned the layout as being too different, too soon, the majority of the community has welcomed the changes with open arms.

Wordpress 2.7

“…One of the goals of 2.7 was to reduce the necessity to load new screens just to access sub-navigation menus; we wanted the most-used screens to be within a click or two at most.”

Wordpress 2.7

Personally, I absolutely love it. How anyone could prefer the current layout to this newer, sleeker, sexier look is beyond me. Sure, it will take an hour or so to relearn where everything is, but it’s worth it. I wonder how long it will be before one of our authors copies the layout? It shouldn’t take too long!

So what do you all think? Love it or hate it?

I saw this earlier this week… I think it’s really great! At last, they’ve given up that archaic tabbed interface and gone for something totally fresh and innovative! Superb!

  • Max says:

Every thing seems to be alot better categorised and displayed more friendly for the user , but well se when they release it.

I am looking forward to seeing it in action when the new WordPress is released – it looks amazing. Certainly a step up from their current admin pages.

  • DVQ says:

    I agree, very sexy indeed.

  • I agree, Jeffrey, the notion that it’s “too different, too soon” is a moot point when the admin layout introduced with 2.5 is so bad. I thought it was a step down from the earlier admin interface with the dark blue header. But these screenshots look really promising.

  • Yeah, I’m in love with it as well. I already think Wordpress has one of the most amazing backends when it comes to blogging engines, and this new layout just looks like it’ll confirm that.

  • Andy Sowards says:

Yes definitely a lot more organized looking, at the moment, I find the dashboard pretty cluttered and useless, but now it looks as though they put thought into what info you really need to see when you first login.

    Looks great! Can’t Wait!

This re-design looks surprisingly like Fluency Admin panel (http://deanjrobinson.com/projects/fluency-admin/) which I have been using for over a year now ;) .

    Oh, and you guys rock!

I think the new admin interface looks pretty sleek. I can’t wait to get my hands on it soon.
