I built my own framework using Smarty and loved the way I could, for the first time, totally separate business logic from display logic. No more PHP code in templates. Found Smarty a bit slow though, but then discovered Templatelite, which is written in PHP 5 and uses Smarty's syntax. Love it!

@casey provost: thanks for the tip, will check it out.

http://github.com/speedmax/h2o-php/tree/master

This is called h2o template language.

If you are familiar with shopify's template language called "liquid" this language is exceptionally similar. It is also quite comparable to Django's own template language.

This language is extremely easy to get familiar with and powerful. Don't take my word for it though...just go out and try it for yourself.

@Jônatan Fróes: hmm weird... I have even encountered problems making Smarty work on PHP4 env... In fact I never got it to work with PHP4, only PHP5 is working. Are you working with the latest release ?

@barat: What do you mean by heavy ? Performance ? Development ? Because in fact both are really good ! You have some caching, some templating, etc. All you can dream of ;)

@Rashad: The site seems to be up and working again and the last article was published 23-May-2009...

Or you could use a MVC framework. Which pretty much does the same thing (i.e. separating business logic from the design).

Smarty is amazing ;)

where is
require '../controllers/backend.php';
$backend = new Backend;
came from ?! is it a smarty built in controller ?

i used smarty in my projects when i enable caching it's not working .
because i use this structure :

index.php --- display(index.tpl)
index.tpl ---- {include file=$page_center}
?module=product -- $smarty->assign("page_center" , "product.tpl") ;

ok ?

i'm in product.php so poduct.tpl must load in center of index.tpl .
when i enable caching it's still show default content not product.tpl !
when it's disabled it's working

what's the problem ? how can i solve that ?!
Please Help me with {config_load file=gbook.conf scope=global}
i don't know why i use config files how to create them ?!
tanks for nice article and sorry about my bad english .
