Unless you’re an uber-icon designer, you probably find yourself searching the web for pretty icons for your templates. The only problem is that the web is littered with icons that no developer could ever use - like Pixar characters. They’re adorable, but utterly useless. Consequently, I’ve compiled a list of the ten (well actually nine) most usable web icons. Did I mention that they’re absolutely free?!
Okay, that last one is hardly usable. Actually, if you submit a theme to us using that set of icons, I can promise you that it will be rejected.
But, it’s still fun. I grew up playing those games.

Thanks for these useful resources! Now I have even more bookmarks to add to my web-design folder
I particularly love the Blogger notepad icon. This one will come in very handy for a personal project. It would be great to see more retro Nintendo icons though - I’m designing a theme for my son who is a total fan

You might want to look into this site you are linking to. They are breaking the rules of some of these icon designers. For example, that very first set comes with a readme with the original URL in it. It says on the page explicitly that they are not to be downloaded anywhere else and if you use them you must include a link to their page.
I’m just afraid “freeiconsweb.com” isn’t paying attention to any license information and these should not be used in our templates.

Also, the 5th set’s download link is broken, and the sixth one has a readme saying its not allowed for use in commercial work. I didn’t check the others, just thought I’d leave a quick note to be wary and check the licenses before you put them all over your templates.

The first set includes the icon for Iconfactory’s Twitterific ( http://iconfactory.com/software/twitterrific/ ) which is not a free-to-use icon.

Thank you for this good collection.
I’ve got a further suggestion. Maybe you can add this icon set to your collection. I think they are quite useful, too.
I’m talking about the famfamfam icon set (http://www.famfamfam.com/).
A very extensive pack with a lot of simple but nice icons.
By the way: merry christmas to everybody

I came here from NETTUTS, and I’m a member anyway - just happend to press the FREEBIES link.
These are awesome, so much so that I might even use a few of these - I really wish I could do icons like the pros, but unless I do them super simple they look rally bad!
Thanks again, awesome post.
