  • CSS MANIA

    When you have designer’s block and those creative juices are not flowing, where do you look? Many choose CSS Mania; a CSS gallery that is regularly updated. All sites are split into unique categories.

    Whereas CSSMania takes a wide range of sites, BWG is update less regularly and for good reason; it only accepts the very best. Similar to CSS Mania, a quick browse through here will yield dozens and dozens of ideas.

  • NETTUTS

    Nettuts has quickly established itself as one of the best tutorial sites on the net. You can expect 5 posts per week on a variety of topics. To avoid mentioning all of them separately, I would also check out psdtuts.com and vectortuts.com.

  • WEB DESIGNER WALL

    This site is run by the owner of Best Web Gallery, Nick La. Although the tutorials posted are not as regular, when they do come, they’re superb. Nick covers many topics, writing about both front and back end designs.

  • MASHABLE

    Mashable is a Web2.0 blog that posts articles on saving money, where to get your business cards, ways to improve your business - to name a few.

  • KILLER SITES

    Killer Sites was founded by Stefan Mischook as the site to support the book “Creating Killer Web Sites”. It has since grown into a fantastic community with excellent tutorials. Primarily for beginners, the tutorials cover HTML, CSS, Flash and PHP (posted on the sister site killerphp.com.)

  • SMASHING MAGAZINE

    SM is still one of the best places on the net to find inspiration. The site focuses more on “round-ups” (ie “40 top CSS tips”) and also contains many interviews with the best minds in the business.

  • W3 SCHOOLS

    It might not be the nicest looking resource out there, but it has to be one of the most thorough. It boasts tutorials for every web language available.

  • CSS TRICKS

    CSS-Tricks provides a plethora of tutorials related to web design. Be sure to watch his weekly screencast each Thursday (Friday for some of you).

  • WP HACKS

    Wordpress is the blogging platform of choice for many. Over 600,000 people have downloaded Wordpress 2.7 already! WP Hacks provides a range of tutorials and articles: quick tips, theme reviews, tutorialsm, and everything in between.

    Twitter is another app that I love using. Every time that I need to know how to do something, I just post a quick Tweet; and it works. It’s an excellent networking tool.

    For designers only - DM.ag provides excellent, and free resources: textures, vectors, buttons and much, much more. Additionally, they regularly post showcases on different styles.

  • VEERLE’S BLOG

    Veerle’s blog has become very popular among web designers. It’s not hard to see why - Veerle posts regular, high quality tutorials primarily based on Photoshop or Illustrator, with the occasional HTML tutorial thrown in for good measure. You simply must follow this blog.

  5. Thanks Andy - I just realised a bit of the text for the google bit got edited out - basically I find it great for figuring out what errors mean, especially in programming languages. And friends on Twitter always help me out.

  14. I think Twitter is a perfectly valid site for this. You can visit the other sites to get inspiration and then discuss your ideas with like-minded individuals at Twitter for feedback. Great list, great article :D

  16. A few of my favorite sites when it comes to designing:

    dafont.com - Huge collection of free fonts. With preview function!
    sxc.hu - Very complete collection of free, high resolution stock photo’s
    deviantART - Probably already known. Great source of inspiration.
