Make the Most Templates in September and Win 1 of 3 prizes of $600 Cash Each!
by Collis in CompetitionsWhat better way to kick off a new site than with a Launch Competition? So we’ve got one heck of a competition for all you theme and template authors out there. It’s pretty straightforward. During September we’ll keep track of how many approved files authors have on ThemeForest, whoever has the most in each of the three categories shown below, will win $600 to spend on an Apple Cinema HD Display (or whatever else you might want to spend $600 on)!

The Details
Authors will be competing in three divisions:
- Most Approved Items in Site Templates
- Most Approved Items in WordPress Themes
- Most Approved Items in Joomla & Misc Themes
We’ll have a leaderboard up in a few days so you can keep track of who’s ahead of who. Only items uploaded between 12:01AM 01/09/2008 and 11:59PM 30/09/2008 AEST (Sydney Time) count. Note that the items don’t need to be approved in that timeframe, just uploaded - but only approved items count towards the final total.
The Prizes
Up for grabs are 3 x $600 in cash … which would be well spent on an Apple Cinema HD Display.
Announcement of Winners
Because we need to approve the items, the winners won’t be announced until the last item uploaded before the deadline has been approved or rejected. Additionally prizes will only be awarded after a full month has elapsed to ensure no copyright fraud has happened.
Rules
The rules are as follows:
- Envato staff and reviewers are not eligible to compete
- Only items uploaded between 12:01 AM 01/09/2008 and 11:59PM 30/09/2008 AEST and subsequently approved for sale on ThemeForest are eligible to count.
- The three authors with the highest count each will win 1 prize each
- The same author cannot win more than one category. If an author comes first in more than one category, they win only the one where they have more uploads. In the other category the prize goes to the next highest author. In other words there will be three winners, no less.
- Our decision is final.
- Files that are taken down for any reason are not eligible to be counted.
- Files must stay up on ThemeForest for at least 6 months.
- Prizes will be awarded on the 1st of November, to give time to ensure no copyright fraud has occurred.
- Winner will be paid in cash via PayPal, Moneybookers, or Wire Transfer. Any bank or transfer fees will come out of the prize money.

Just to double check, does this mean the person with the most sales wins? Or the person with the most files for download? Either way a nice idea.

Very exciting!

That’s the most files for download, regardless of sales!
In some ways a sales comp can be fairer, but because we’re just launching our primary objective is to get lots and lots of content. So as long as you have files approved, you’re in the race

To be honest, I think it should be based more on sales or top rated themes than a users total number of themes. Releasing 500 themes that are complete crap just for the sake of making 500 themes is pretty lame to me. I’d much rather award someone for making 5 kick ass themes instead.

Does the author with more files uploaded have a greater chance to win? After all it’s based on downloads. Now, I’m I allowed to conclude that it’s more toward quantity than quality?

Hey folks, this contest is in deed about quantity, but remember we approve files so you have to have sufficient quality to get in. We’ve now got a leaderboard up:

And it’s an open field!

Hey Philip,
Just to answer your question, refer to rule number four int he list above
“The same author cannot win more than one category. If an author comes first in more than one category, they win only the one where they have more uploads. In the other category the prize goes to the next highest author. In other words there will be three winners, no less.”
Hope that answered your question

Aw, chucks. I only discovered ThemeForest this weekend! There’s no way I could catch up with others in the Misc. leaderboard now…
Even so, this is a great competition and best of luck to everyone trying for these prizes. I hope this results in some great new themes uploaded to the site

Cool idea, and good way to give some extra rewards where needed.
But if you break it down, the designers are getting ripped off, horribly. They will put forth a great effort to pump out alot of really nice designs (since they will need to be nice to get approved) just for $600 cash.
Cheap way to get content for themeforest, but, I guess you have to run a business somehow, eh ?
Kind of like electing McCain into office, promises a change when he will be exactly like Bush. Deter the designers’ brains someplace else to keep them off of the fact that they will be making minimum wage to design these sites

@Justin
This depends on the designer and their product completely. Keep in mind that by selling a design here the designer makes a profit. If they have a high number of approved files and their designs are liked by a large audience then they will not only make the quick $600 but also the profits form their sales.

But your forgeting the fact that the authors also make a percentage off the template sales. So the $600 is just a bonus.
